Mission Statement and Vision
Cathedral Academy at Pompei is a Catholic educational ministry of the Diocese of Syracuse. It provides a safe environment for children of varied cultural, linguistic, religious, and economic backgrounds. Through the richness of diversity, Cathedral Academy at Pompei students gain an understanding and respect for self and others.
The faculty and staff work in partnership with Le Moyne College, students, families and community members to create a loving Christian atmosphere where faith development, moral values, and academic excellence are encouraged and pursued.
Cathedral Academy at Pompei meets the individual needs of our students through the teaching mission of Jesus Christ in a compassionate and nurturing environment that fosters a sense of responsibility for themselves within the local and global communities through a values oriented education. The mission and vision for Cathedral Academy at Pompei includes a curriculum that embraces Roman Catholic global education: one that promotes inquiry learning for problem posing and problem solving using peaceful collaborative strategies one that embraces spirituality through religious studies, and service to others for the promotion of social justice one that promotes the sciences, entrepreneurship, and technology for the survival of the planet and its people one that promotes an understanding of all cultures through academic course work as well as the performing arts The New York State required curriculum content will be adapted to the mission and vision of Cathedral Academy at Pompei. The following are the major curriculum objectives, not necessarily in the order of importance: To operate a year long program of academic study which would include the typical 10 months per school year, with an additional 2 months during the summer for special supplemental, enrichment, and tutorial programs, such as a young scholars program, preparing students for 7-12 high schools that promote strong academic achievement. To move the school toward a 24 hour community information and recreation center within five years. To offer 12 hours of child care-6am to 6 pm, seven days a week. To establish a Community Literacy Center for adults and children that would diagnose, remediate, and tutor English speakers with special literacy learning needs and English Language Learners. Le Moyne interns in masters’ programs, such as, Urban Studies Master Degree, Literacy Master Degrees, and Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages Master Degree would accomplish their work directed by a Le Moyne College Director To offer cultural and language studies for stronger global understandings. To provide rich programs in music and the arts as windows into human accomplishments, such as band, orchestra, dance, drama, chorus, and artistic exhibitions that demonstrate the global nature of the school. To explore sciences and technology concerning humans, other living plants and animals, and the planet Earth. Draw upon the local health, education and business communities to teach our children about the problems, possibilities, intricacies and solutions. To promote entrepreneurship through ethical and dynamic business practices for human health and safety. To become a professional development school for Le Moyne College-a place where preservice teachers would observe and work with stellar models of teaching. To create a Financial Advisory Board who would seek funds to sustain the growth and development of the school.
